Vegan Jalapeño Cheese Artisan Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups Bread flour Unbleached or all-purpose
  • 1.5 tsp Salt Fine sea salt preferred
  • 1 tbsp Sugar Optional for slight sweetness
  • 1 packet Instant dry yeast
  • 1.25 cups Warm water About 120°F–130°F
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil For richness
  • 1.5 cups Vegan cheddar Shredded for gooey texture
  • 2 medium Jalapeños Diced, seeds adjusted for heat

Instructions
 

  • Activate yeast in warm water (120°F - 130°F)
  • Mix flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl
  • Add activated yeast mixture and olive oil
  • Stir until sticky dough forms
  • Knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic
  • Place in greased bowl and let rise 1 hour
  • Punch down dough and fold in diced jalapeños and vegan cheese
  • Shape loaf and let rise 30-45 minutes
  • Preheat oven to 450°F with Dutch oven inside
  • Transfer dough to hot Dutch oven using parchment paper
  • Score top of loaf
  • Bake covered 30 minutes
  • Remove lid and bake 15-20 minutes until golden brown
  • Cool completely on wire rack

Notes

  • Spice level can be adjusted by controlling jalapeño seeds
  • Can be stored in an airtight container for 3-4 days
  • Suitable for freezing
  • Can be made gluten-free using appropriate flour blend and xanthan gum
