A step-by-step guide to making a delicious, dairy-free, and spicy artisan bread featuring gooey vegan cheese and fresh jalapeños.

- 3 cups Bread flour Unbleached or all-purpose
- 1.5 tsp Salt Fine sea salt preferred
- 1 tbsp Sugar Optional for slight sweetness
- 1 packet Instant dry yeast
- 1.25 cups Warm water About 120°F–130°F
- 1 tbsp Olive oil For richness
- 1.5 cups Vegan cheddar Shredded for gooey texture
- 2 medium Jalapeños Diced, seeds adjusted for heat
Activate yeast in warm water (120°F - 130°F)
Mix flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl
Add activated yeast mixture and olive oil
Stir until sticky dough forms
Knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic
Place in greased bowl and let rise 1 hour
Punch down dough and fold in diced jalapeños and vegan cheese
Shape loaf and let rise 30-45 minutes
Preheat oven to 450°F with Dutch oven inside
Transfer dough to hot Dutch oven using parchment paper
Score top of loaf
Bake covered 30 minutes
Remove lid and bake 15-20 minutes until golden brown
Cool completely on wire rack
